Shayla from Canada,
writes candidly in her blog about her 3.5 week experience at the Katitawa School. I laughed and admit that a few tears fell as I read her account of her stay in Salasaca and Ambato. Her posts are the longest that I have ever seen and she hasn't learned how to use the "shift key" so it is a little hard to read, but it is well worth it.
Every few months a tour bus with visitors from France comes up the drive. When someone sees the bus a yell goes out "gringo" and they all come running. Each time they arrive they bring some school supplies and a few treats for the children. There is aways a lot of picture taking and on one visit a man named Christian took fotos and put them on the web. You can see them here.
A couple from Chicago visited for three days. This is what they had to say.

ReplyDeletei am a Ph.D student from Madison, Wisconsin, planning a two-month stay in Salasaka this summer...i got your name from Mary Antonia in Michigan, she pointed me in the direction of SKY and the Katitawa project. I'd love to connect once I get to town in late-May, but for now I wanted to establish an email contact with you, and find out if you need any particular (transportable) items from the U.S. that I might be able to bring down with me (i.e., books?).
